Celebrating Women Artists and the landmark exhibition William Morris & Art from the Islamic World
I am tremendously proud to have contributed my voice to an exclusive publication, curated by Bayt Al Fann in collaboration with the William Morris Gallery in London, celebrating the intersection of Islamic art and the work of William Morris.
“What is overwhelmingly apparent throughout Islamic art traditions and the Arts and Crafts movement is a homage to the inherent order and unity in nature. This marriage of structured precision and the freedom of abstracted natural forms elevates design to something that feels alive with energy and growth yet expresses reserved sophistication. It whispers a language of familiarity and serves as a timeless expression of our connection to nature and our innate appreciation for aesthetic balance.” — Charlotte Dilley

Created to celebrate the landmark exhibition William Morris & Art from the Islamic World, this project highlights the profound influence of Islamic art on Morris’s revolutionary aesthetic and honours the vital contributions of pioneering women artists in both traditions.
The publication brings together the voices and visions of 23 extraordinary women artists who are not only preserving traditional Islamic art forms but are also innovating and reshaping these traditions for future generations.
“By dedicating ourselves to meticulous craftsmanship and preserving traditional skills and knowledge, we strengthen our communities and benefit society at large. The ripple effects are far-reaching and profound. Through my own artistic endeavours and educational efforts, I hope to add a modest thread to the rich tapestry of creative excellence woven throughout history. This legacy, particularly championed by Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, owes much to the extraordinary women who have too often been overlooked. Their contributions serve as both inspiration and a reminder of the enduring power of art to shape our collective narrative and cultural heritage.” — Charlotte Dilley
